Amanda is a Clinical Psychologist and Disability Psychotherapist and works in a variety of settings including the NHS, a not-for-profit residential support provider and a counselling charity.

Amanda has always worked with people with ID and /or autism and other neurodiversities, who have experienced emotional distress and trauma.  Sometimes this is shown in the person’s behaviours, which can be difficult for others to understand.

Amanda draws on a variety of approaches to understand and support people who are distressed.  These include positive behavioural approaches, Disability Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.  

Amanda is skilled at working with both individuals, indirectly or in individual therapy, adapted as appropriate and also with staff teams through support, consultation and training.

“I believe the ARC model would be perfect for all age ranges, but in particular children/adolescents. Staff can restrain the distressed person as a last resort, but because the restraint is safe and doesn’t inflict any pain, it maintains and promotes positive relationships between the patient/service user and the carer/support worker.”
